Pedro Prata

Pedro Prata was born in 1982 and grew up on a farm in the central mountains of Portugal, where he developed a deep connection with nature. Passionate about ecology and outdoor sports, he pursued his interest in biology, earning an MSc in Biology from the University of Lisbon and later an MSc in Ecology and Evolution from the Universiteit van Amsterdam, focusing on coral reef restoration in the Caribbean. With experience in projects in Brazil and the United States, Pedro returned to Portugal and became involved in the first rewilding initiative at Faia Brava. Convinced of the potential of this strategy to combat land abandonment, he developed a project to promote biodiversity in the Côa River basin. In 2019, he took on the executive direction of Rewilding Portugal, leading the rewilding movement in the country and joining a European network aimed at making Europe wilder and more biodiverse.
