Rewilding Portugal

Rewilding Portugal is a non-profit organization, created in January 2019, dedicated to nature conservation. Based in Guarda, the 21-member team collaborates with Rewilding Europe, implementing ecological restoration projects in the Great Côa Valley. Rewilding is an innovative conservation approach aimed at promoting the renaturalization of landscapes and the return of native species, with minimal human intervention after initial actions have taken course such as the removal of invasive species. The Great Côa Valley was chosen for its high biodiversity and potential to become the epicenter of a project that could be expanded to other areas. This model also aims to promote sustainable local economies, balancing nature with the well-being of communities.
